Praying Mantis Kung Fu
What is Praying Mantis? It is a style of Kung Fu originating from the Shaolin Temple!
Praying Mantis is a style of Kung Fu originating from the Shaolin Temple. The Northern Style of Mantis was founded by Wong Long, an expert master which combined the best movements of the 17 styles of Kung Fu from the Shaolin Temple with the movements of the praying mantis. The master which actually passed on the Praying Mantis style and its techniques was Sheng Xiao.
Why study Praying Mantis? Who Should take this class?
Praying Mantis uses short power movements. The difference between Shaolin Kung Fu and Praying Mantis is the upper body power movement vs. use of legs and waist power. The waste movement sends up through the body and limbs the power of an attack. The skills that make Seven Star Praying Mantis, so effective are based on the balance, coordination, and body-linked "supple" movement. The generating power method of Praying Mantis (waist-torque) does not require much physical strength as the Shaolin style. This style movement does not require much physical exertion. With its shorter movements, it is also consists of extremely fast techniques.
What will I learn?
Praying Mantis from the Shaolin Temple consists of the following forms: Seven Star (Chi Xieng), Plum Flower (Mei Hua ), Shiny Board (Guang Bang ), Long Fist (Chang Chuan) , and Chariot (Fan Che). In our days, the Seven Star Praying Mantis consist of 50% Seven Star (Chi Xieng), 30% Plum Flower (Mei Hua ), and 20% Shiny Board (Guang Bang ). The Praying Mantis style, Shiny Board (Guang Bang ) is the root style of both Long Fist (Chang Chuan) and Chariot (Fan Che).
The forms of Seven Star (Chi Xieng) are Crushing Step (Beng Bu), Eighteen Old Men (Shyh Ba Sou), Concealing the Hard (Duo Gang), Praying Mantis Exits the Cave (Tang Lang Chu Dong), Praying Mantis Steals the Peach (Tang Lang Tou Tau) and Plum Flower Hand (Mei Hua Shou).
Crushing Step or Beng Bu is the form which is considered the foundation of the Northern Style Praying Mantis and contains the 12 character principles from the original system of Praying Mantis.
The forms of Plum Flower (Mei Hua) are Plum Flower Fist (Mei Hua Chuan), Yi Lu Jai Yaw, Er Lu Jai Yaw, and San Lu Jai Yaw (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Route Essence).
The forms of Shiny Board (Guang Bang) are Plum Flower Falling (Mei Hua Luo), Big Gesture Form (Da Gia Shyh) and Small Gesture Form (Xiou Gia Shyh).
The forms of Long Fist style (Chang Chuan) are: Piercing Fist (Cha Chuey) and Four Direction Fist (Syh Lu Bun Da).
The forms of Chariot (Fan Che) are: Big Chariot (Da Fan Che) and Little Chariot (Xiao Fan Che ).
The Seven Star Praying Mantis includes some other additional forms but with only the original sets you can master the entire system.
